Description

The World Music Baskets are the perfect introduction to World Music and music-making for Early Years, Primary and Secondary settings and also for use in the home. Weï¾’ve tried to put as many different instruments in each basket as we can, making these great resources both for music and for cross-cultural studies. This is the smallest basket and it contains 15 instruments, all of them made by hand using natural and recycled materials. Each collection comes in a sturdy bamboo storage basket and contains a 16 page Activity Guide, a brilliantly written handbook for the teacher or parent. The Guide not only gives you loads of ideas for developing musical and developmental skills, it also has a section showing how music and rhythm can be used to support the teaching of other subjects, from arithmetic to phonetics. The Guide has been written especially for non-musicians and is in three main sections: Exploring Sounds, Making Music and Using the Instruments to Improve Learning. It covers amongst other topics:

Creating Sounds
Sorting Sounds
Talking Sounds
Playing Pictures
Exporing & Building with Rhythms
What Animal is That?
Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales
Echoes
Mixing Rhythms

and the final section shows how music and rhythm can tansform other fields of learning, from counting to phonetics, making them easy and fun to learn.

The Guide Is for everyone and contains special notes relevant to SEN settings.

How it's Played

All the instruments in the music baskets are visually fascinating, highly tactile and stimulate both the senses and the imagination. They're also "pick up and play" and don't really need any instruction - but if you need some pointers, do have a look at the video clips on the relevant pages elsewhere on the website.

What it goes well with

How it's Made

The instruments are based on original designs from all over the world and aremade by hand from natural materials following FairTrade principles. They're also fully guaranteed and highly affordable.
All our instruments, and the baskets, are made in Bali using natural and local materials, often in local villages where they create a useful source of income for families and a low stress, clean and safe type of work.

The beautiful and sturdy baskets are woven by hand from bamboo fibres and are traditionally used by Balinese artists, musicians and dancers for carrying their costumes and materials.

How to look after it

None of the instruments need any special maintenance. Just be careful not to let the basket and contents get damp and don't put it on radiator or anywhere too hot. The instruments are tough but they're still instruments and need to be treated with respect and very small children should be continuously supervised.
