Description

Simple, easy to play, 4 note tong drum (though to be honest there are often only 2 or 3 different notes!). The sound is very special and it sounds good however you play it. Try beating out simple rhytmic patterns. Supplied with two drum sticks.

How it's Played

Experiment hitting the wooden box in different places and with different sticks to see what sounds best. Very hard rubber sticks work well and you can play the sides as well as the "tongue" notes on top. The tuning is not far from random and this is all to the good as if you concentrate on making repeated  rhythmic patterns you'll find it sounds brilliant. No wrong notes are possible and playing can be quie addictive.

How it's Made

Basically a wooden box made from 6 pieces of wood, one for each side. The top one is carefully cut to make the "tongues" and is then tuned (to a certain extent) by carving away the thickness of the back of the tongues.
