Description

Another strange but wonderful instrument used in South American music. Technically it's a "membranophone" - an instrument which produces sounds from a vibrating skin. In this case the skin is made to vibrate by pulling on the wooden stick. It helps if your hands are dry and dusty (not greasy as they'll slide down the stick) or slightly wet. Alternatively use a piece of cotton fabric to cover the stick. Sounds just like a monkey or chimpanzee!
