These Indonesian goatskins are bi-products of the Javanese muslim culture, which requires the ritual sacrifice of goats. The skins are specially selected for thicknesss and uniformity and they're tanned, making them both stronger and safer than shaved skins, as traditionally used on African djembes. Each skin is big enough to make replacement heads for several djembes. |
